Jacksonville, North Carolina

Support that keeps up with a household built around orders.

Telehealth counseling for Jacksonville, North Carolina, a community shaped by Camp Lejeune, by young families, and by a rhythm of departures and returns that rarely slows down.

A Young, Mobile Community

A city where most people are early in something.

Jacksonville's population skews young, and much of daily life here revolves around Camp Lejeune: its schedule, its training cycles, and the constant arrival and departure of Marines and their families. That means a large share of residents are relatively new to town, new to marriage or parenting, or new to managing a household on their own for stretches at a time.

Being young and new to a place at the same time can be its own particular strain. Friendships form fast because time is short, and they can end just as fast when someone transfers out. Support networks that took months to build can scatter within a season. It is easy to feel like you are always starting over, even while everyone around you assumes you have figured it out already.

Therapy can be a steady point in a life that otherwise moves on someone else's calendar. It does not require you to have a long history in Jacksonville or a fully settled routine before the conversation is worth having.

Deployment And Reintegration

The cycle does not end when someone comes home.

Deployment reshapes a household well before anyone leaves and well after they return. The lead-up often brings a mix of practical preparation and emotional distance that can be hard to name. During the separation, one parent or partner typically manages the household, the finances, and the children largely alone, while carrying worry that has no obvious outlet.

Reintegration is frequently treated as the easy part, a return to normal, but it often is not. Routines built during the absence do not simply dissolve because someone is back. Roles have to be renegotiated, sometimes more than once, and the adjustment can bring friction that catches both partners off guard.

None of this needs to become a crisis before it is worth discussing. Ordinary strain that has stretched on longer than expected is reason enough to want a place to talk it through.

Families And Young Children

Parenting through a schedule you did not set.

Many households in Jacksonville are raising young children on a timeline dictated by training exercises, duty stations, and orders that can change without much warning. Managing school enrollment, childcare, and a child's own adjustment to a parent's absence and return is a significant amount of steady, mostly invisible work.

Spouses and partners often become the primary constant for children during deployments, holding routines together while managing their own uncertainty. That role can be exhausting even when it is handled well, and it rarely comes with much acknowledgment.

James Revels, MA, LCMHC, brings fifty years of clinical practice to this work, drawing on cognitive approaches, mindful attention, emotional regulation, and direct conversation suited to what is actually useful for the person in the room.

How Sessions Work

Meet from home, on a schedule that fits around orders.

All sessions are conducted by telehealth. There is no Jacksonville office and no in-person visit involved. If you are physically located in North Carolina, you can meet from a private space without adding a drive around base traffic or duty hours to an already full day.

Sessions last 60 minutes and cost $180. Appointments are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with scheduling through Headway. James is licensed in North Carolina only, so you need to be in the state and somewhere private during your session.

This is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. James does not treat addictions or eating disorders; when either is the primary concern, he will refer you to a specialist rather than work around it.
