Never faster than you have said yes to.
Older material that still shapes the present. Worked slowly, somatically, and with your consent at every step, because pace is not a detail in this work. It is the work.
What It Looks Like
The past setting today's terms.
Something happened, or a great many small things happened over a long time, and your system drew conclusions. Those conclusions were accurate then. They are still running now, in rooms where they no longer apply.
It shows up as a startle that is out of proportion. A shutdown in a conversation that was not actually dangerous. Sleep that never fully lands. A reaction that arrives before the thought does, followed by an afternoon of explaining yourself to yourself.
Plenty of people carrying this are highly functional and have been for decades. Capability is not evidence that the material has been dealt with. Often it is just evidence of how well you learned to work around it.
How We Work
Slow, somatic, and consented to.
We build the ground before we touch the material. That means settling practices you can actually use, and a reliable sense of how to come back to the room, so that nothing we open is opened without a way to close it again.
The somatic thread matters here. I will often ask where something lands physically before we talk about what it means, because this material lives in the body and talking about it from the neck up can leave the whole thing exactly where it was.
I am trained in cognitive behavioral work, psychodynamic work, somatic approaches, mindfulness-based therapy and the humanistic and existential traditions, and I choose among them for you rather than applying one by default. What I will not do is push. You set the pace and I will keep checking that I have your yes.
What Changes
The past becomes past.
The aim is not to erase what happened or to explain it away. It is that the material stops arriving as the present. A memory becomes something you have rather than something that has you, and the gap between a trigger and a reaction becomes wide enough to stand in.
People frequently notice the change first in ordinary places. A difficult meeting that does not cost a night of sleep. A conversation with a family member that ends when it ends.
I make no guarantees and I do not use the word cure. This work is unpredictable in its timing, and I will be honest with you throughout about what I think is helping.
Practical
How the work runs.
Sessions are 60 minutes by secure video, anywhere in North Carolina. Most people begin weekly, which matters more for this work than for most. Adults 18 and over, most between 30 and 75.
The free consultation is a good way to test whether the pace and the manner suit you before you commit to anything. Fit matters more in trauma work than in almost any other kind.
I do not treat addictions or eating disorders. Where either is the primary concern I will refer you to a specialist. I am not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room.
