Accessibility
A website intended to be usable by more people.
James Revels Counseling aims to make this website clear, navigable, and compatible with a range of ways people read and interact online.
The Aim
WCAG 2.1 Level AA guides the work.
James Revels Counseling aims for this website to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines describe ways to make digital content more perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust for people with disabilities.
This is an ongoing aim rather than a claim of certification. Accessibility needs can differ from person to person, and technology continues to change. A page can still create a barrier even when established guidance has informed its design. Feedback from people using the site is therefore an important part of keeping it useful.
The goal is straightforward: you should be able to find information about telehealth counseling, understand the practical details, move among pages, and reach the contact form without the design getting in your way. The work of improving that experience continues as content and technology change.
How the Site Is Built
The basics should work in more than one way.
Pages use semantic headings so the order and relationship of the content can be understood visually and with assistive technology. The main navigation, page links, and form controls are intended to work with a keyboard rather than requiring a mouse. Visible focus indicators help show which link or control is currently selected.
Meaningful images include text alternatives so their purpose is available when an image cannot be seen. Decorative images are treated differently so they do not add unnecessary noise for people using a screen reader. Form fields use labels that identify the information being requested.
Text and background colors are chosen with readable color contrast in mind, and color is not intended to be the only way important information is communicated. Text can be resized with browser controls, and the layout is intended to reflow rather than require you to read at one fixed size. The site also respects device settings that request reduced motion.
These choices are intended to support people who browse with screen readers, voice control, magnification, altered display settings, or no mouse. They can also help anyone who needs clear structure, predictable navigation, or more time to read. They are practical measures, not a promise that every combination of browser and assistive technology will behave identically.
Video Sessions and Adjustments
Access needs can be discussed before you begin.
Counseling is offered by telehealth to adults who are physically located in North Carolina at the time of each session. Video sessions, scheduling, payment, and insurance administration run through Headway, which is a separate service with its own accessibility practices and support options.
If you need an adjustment to participate, such as extra time to process information, a different format for written material, clearer pacing, or another practical change, please say so. You can raise the need during a consultation or in a brief contact-form message. You do not need to provide a detailed diagnosis to ask whether an adjustment can be made.
James will discuss what is reasonably available within a telehealth counseling setting rather than assume what will work for you. If a barrier is part of Headway's booking or video system, Headway may also need to help because James Revels Counseling does not control that platform.
Report a Barrier
A specific description helps identify the problem.
If something on this website prevents you from finding information or completing an inquiry, please report the barrier through the contact form at /contact. Name the page, describe what you were trying to do, and explain what happened. If you are comfortable doing so, you can also mention the browser, device, or assistive technology you were using. Those details can make a problem easier to understand and address.
Keep the message focused on the website barrier. The contact form is not a secure channel for health information, so do not include a diagnosis, treatment history, insurance details, or other private clinical information. If the form itself is the barrier, the Headway booking link remains another way to request a consultation.
Accessibility feedback will be considered as part of the site's ongoing improvement. Some requests may require clarification or may involve a service outside this site's control, but reporting a barrier helps identify where the experience is not working as intended.
This statement applies to the James Revels Counseling website. Links may lead to outside websites with their own content and accessibility practices. The website and contact form are not crisis services and are not monitored continuously. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to the nearest emergency room.
