Greensboro, North Carolina

A working city, and a life built on top of it.

Telehealth counseling for Greensboro adults who came up through its colleges, its mills, or its neighborhoods, and who are still figuring out what steadiness looks like now.

A City of Students and Graduates

You can outgrow a campus and still carry it with you.

Greensboro holds several colleges and universities inside one relatively compact city, and a good share of the people who live here arrived first as students. Some stayed because a job or a relationship kept them close. Others left and came back years later, surprised by how familiar the streets still felt.

Whatever the path, there is often a quiet comparison running underneath daily life: who you thought you would become at twenty, and who you actually are now. That gap is not a failure. It is simply what happens when a plan meets an actual life, with its detours, its slower years, and its unexpected turns.

Therapy gives that comparison somewhere to go besides rumination. You can look at the distance between expectation and reality without treating either one as the final verdict on how things turned out.

Built on Making Things

The city remembers what it made, and so do the people in it.

Greensboro grew on textiles and manufacturing, on mills and plants that employed generations of families before much of that work moved elsewhere or changed shape entirely. That history is not abstract for a lot of residents. It shows up in a grandparent's stories, a shuttered building repurposed into lofts, or a family's own experience of an industry contracting underneath them.

If you grew up around that kind of work, or around the discipline and self-reliance it required, you may carry an instinct to keep producing even when rest would serve you better. Value can start to feel measured only by output, which makes slowing down feel like a small betrayal of everyone who worked harder with less.

That instinct deserves respect rather than dismissal. It also deserves examination, especially when it keeps you from acknowledging exhaustion, grief, or the plain need for a different pace than the one you were handed.

Deep Roots, Quiet Change

A city that keeps its shape while everything around it shifts.

Greensboro does not always announce its changes the way a faster-growing city might. New residents, new businesses, and new pressures arrive gradually, and long-time residents can feel the accumulation more than any single event. Newer arrivals, meanwhile, may sense the depth of roots here without quite knowing how to enter them.

Either position can bring its own kind of loneliness. Therapy is a place to talk through that without needing to resolve it into a tidy narrative about belonging. Some questions about home take longer than a single conversation, and that is fine.

How Sessions Work

Steady attention, delivered by secure video.

James Revels, MA, LCMHC, brings fifty years of clinical practice to work with adults across North Carolina. Sessions are 60 minutes and cost $180, offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and booked through Headway. The practice is telehealth only, so there is no office to visit and no travel to plan around.

James is licensed in North Carolina only, which means you need to be physically located in the state at the time of your session. Depending on what you bring, the work may draw on cognitive approaches, mindfulness, attention to the body, or straightforward conversation about a pattern that has become hard to see from the inside.

This is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. James does not treat addictions or eating disorders; when either is the primary concern, he will refer you to a specialist.
