Charlotte, North Carolina

When life looks good on paper but does not feel that way.

Telehealth counseling for Charlotte adults carrying long hours, relocation, ambition, and the quiet cost of keeping everything together.

Behind the Competence

A demanding life can hide in plain sight.

Charlotte is a city where competence is easy to recognize. Banking, finance, consulting, and the businesses built around them reward speed, judgment, and the ability to stay composed when the stakes are high. A full calendar can look like success. So can the promotion, the house, the move, and the steady answer when someone asks how things are going.

The private experience may be different. Work can follow you past dinner through messages, preparation, or the simple inability to stop thinking about what comes next. Sleep gets lighter. Patience gets shorter. The mind keeps running scenarios long after the decision has been made. You may still be doing everything expected of you, which can make it harder to admit that the way you are doing it no longer feels sustainable.

Therapy offers an hour in which you do not need to present the finished version. You can speak about the pressure underneath the role, the fear attached to making a mistake, or the question of whether the life you worked toward still fits the person living it.

Relocation and Belonging

A new address does not immediately become a life.

Charlotte draws people for work, family, and possibility. A move can be welcome and still carry loss. Familiar friendships are farther away. A partner may settle more quickly than you do. The routines that once gave shape to the week have to be rebuilt while the new job is already asking for your full attention.

Relocation can also expose questions that were easier to avoid before the boxes were packed. Who are you without the old circle around you? How much of your identity rests on work? What happens when a move that made sense on paper feels lonely in practice? These are not signs that the decision was wrong. They are part of understanding what changed and what needs care now.

Because sessions are online, you can meet from a private place without adding another drive across Charlotte to the week. The practice has no Charlotte office and does not imply one. James Revels, MA, LCMHC, is licensed in North Carolina and works by telehealth with clients who are physically located in the state.

A Different Pace

The hour is not another performance review.

After fifty years of clinical practice, James brings a steady, direct way of working. You do not need to arrive with an agenda, a set of goals written in corporate language, or a convincing account of why you need help. The work can begin with the sentence that has been difficult to say elsewhere.

Sessions may involve mindful attention, cognitive work, honest dialogue, or noticing how a thought or emotion is held in the body. The point is not to optimize you for another demanding week. It is to understand the patterns that keep taking over, build a more grounded relationship with yourself, and make room for choices that are not driven entirely by pressure.

For some people, the central concern is anxiety that never fully switches off. For others it is burnout, depression, relationship strain, or a midlife question that arrived despite outward success. The shape of the conversation follows what is actually happening rather than what looks most presentable.

Practical Details

Counseling from where you already are.

Sessions are 60 minutes by telehealth and cost $180. Appointments are available Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Scheduling takes place through Headway. You need to be in North Carolina for the session and have a private place where you can speak freely.

James is licensed in North Carolina only. This is a telehealth-only practice, with no street address, local office, or in-person availability in Charlotte.

This is not a crisis service. If you are in immediate danger, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. James does not treat addictions or eating disorders; when either is the primary concern, he will refer you to a specialist.
