Who I Help

# For men who have not spoken about any of this before.

Starting can feel awkward when your life has been built around handling things privately. You do not need polished language or a clear explanation to begin.

The Beginning

## Not knowing what to say is allowed.

Many men reach midlife having had very few conversations about their interior lives. You may be able to describe a problem at work in exact detail and still struggle to name what happens in your chest when the house is quiet.

The difficulty of starting is specific. Therapy may feel unfamiliar, overly exposed, or like an admission that the methods you have relied on are failing. You may not know whether what you feel is sadness, anger, exhaustion, grief, or simply a wish to be left alone.

You do not need to arrive with a diagnosis, a speech, or a goal written in the right language. We can begin with what changed, what has become harder, or what someone close to you keeps trying to tell you.

Work and Identity

## When usefulness has carried the whole structure.

Work often holds more than income. It can organize time, provide status, create community, and answer the question of who you are. When work becomes empty, changes without your consent, or begins to cost too much, the disturbance reaches beyond the job.

Midlife can bring a reckoning with choices made long ago. A career may have succeeded while a marriage grew distant. Children may need you differently or less often. Parents may be aging. The future is still open, but it no longer feels unlimited.

Sometimes the first visible sign is irritability. Sometimes it is sleep, drinking more than intended, withdrawing, or losing interest in what once restored you. I do not treat addiction as a primary concern, but we can speak honestly about any pattern and identify the right care.

How We Work

## Plain language before perfect insight.

I will ask direct questions and leave room for incomplete answers. We can examine the standards you inherited about strength, provision, anger, dependence, and what a man is supposed to carry without complaint. You decide which of those standards still belong to you.

The work includes the body because people often feel something before they can name it. A brief guided practice can help you notice pressure, heaviness, restlessness, or numbness without demanding that it become a revelation. Small observations give us somewhere concrete to start.

Nothing requires a dramatic disclosure before trust and language have had time to develop.

We can also look at relationships and the patterns that repeat there: solving instead of listening, leaving the room internally, waiting until resentment becomes anger, or assuming that needing another person creates a debt. The conversation stays practical while making room for depth.

Practical Details

## Private sessions from where you are.

I have 50 years of clinical practice. Sessions are 60 minutes by secure video and cost $180. Appointments are offered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with booking and scheduling through Headway.

I am licensed only in North Carolina. You must be physically present in North Carolina at session time. The practice is telehealth only, with no office, street address, local location, or in-person appointment anywhere in the state.

I do not treat addictions or eating disorders. If either is the primary concern, I will refer you to specialized care. The consultation is a chance to ask practical questions and notice whether talking together feels workable, without needing to make a larger promise.
